The Oldest Planned Community in Arizona

Sitting among the tall pines in North Central Arizona is the Mountain Club, the oldest planned community in the state.  Founded by Milton Smith in 1926 as the Hassayampa Mountain Club, the community sold 450 lots in its first three years of existence and remains a popular neighborhood in which to buy to this day.  Many of the original homes were purchased as summer getaways but the Mountain Club has since become an ideal community for buyers looking for a full-time home.  The Club is family-friendly and known for its focus on community events and entertainment—so much so there’s a full-time director to help organize such activities!  Visit Hassayampa Mountain Club to see for yourself!

The Homes

The Mountain Club is one of the most diverse communities in Prescott in terms of the styles, floorplans, and sizes of the homes available in the neighborhood.  Buyers can find small cabins that size up at around 900 square feet or estates that are upwards of 5,000 square feet.  The prices of homes have a massive range, with some homes starting at $135,000 and some priced at over $900,000.  Buyers can even opt for a vacant lot that allows for them to custom build their dream home!

The Community

Mountain Club is not a gated community, but some areas of the neighborhood do have a small annual HOA fee that helps to maintain the clubhouse, playgrounds, and parks that are scattered around the area.  The HOA board also helps to plan community events such as the Mountain Club Super Bowl, annual swap meets, and popular among residents, regular pot luck dinners!  The original intent for the master-planned community was to design and build a resort that was close to downtown, so current residents are able to benefit from Mountain Club’s proximity to the city.

Nearby

The pines that blanket Mountain Club provide a sense of seclusion, but the reality is that the neighborhood is within walking distance of The Safeway Grocery store and Downtown Prescott.  Potential buyers will love the onsite amenities of the neighborhood—including a clubhouse, several playgrounds, and a smattering of parks—but they’ll also love the closeness of the necessities that can only be found in a bigger city like Prescott.  From Whiskey Row, to unique antique shops, and big box stores, everything residents need can be found within just two miles of the community!

Recreation

Buying a home in Mountain Club will include access to some really great, and truly Arizonan recreational activities.  The community itself has several parks and playgrounds that can be enjoyed by residents, but there are also hiking and biking trails all around the neighborhood that homeowners are welcomed to utilize.  It’s impossible to bring up outdoor recreation in Arizona without mentioning golf!  The closest course to Mountain Club is The Capital Canyon Club—one of the nation’s most difficult courses!  Players from all over the world come to take a swing on these tough fairways—and the delicious food made by the 5-star chef only heightens the experience!
